Trauma Sensitive Yoga


Trauma Sensitive Yoga is a yoga practice that supports the idea that every body carries a lot of different experiences with them- both in their mind, and in their physical body. Using the trauma sensitive and informed approach to yoga, students are encouraged to follow their own intuition during their practice and move their bodies as organically as possible. The focus shifts from sometimes rigid traditional postures and alignment, to mindfulness and intuitive movements.


As explained by The Help Guide, emotional and psychological trauma is the result of extraordinarily stressful events that shatter your sense of security. This trauma makes us feel helpless in a dangerous world. Traumatic experiences often involve a threat to life or safety, but it can also be a situation that creates an uneasy feeling.

No physical harm needs to be present with trauma, emotional and psychological trauma are equally as damaging. Through trauma informed yoga, rules are bent to create a safe space, and open up a dialogue to begin working on ourselves, and is careful in guiding a yoga practice that is conducive to the individual practicing.
